Australian migration plan in 2024
The Australian government announced the planning levels for its 2022–2023 Australian Migration Plan. There will be 160,000 spots, with two-thirds going to the skills stream and one-third going to the family stream. The Migration Program was made to help Australia’s economy get back on its feet after COVID-19 and to help Australians get back together with their families.
As a result, foreigners will have more ways to get into the country to work, live, and get on the path to becoming citizens. The Migration Program will also prioritize visa applicants who are able to contribute to Australia’s economic and social development, including in regional areas. These applicants will be assessed for their skills and knowledge, as well as their potential to become long-term Australian residents / permanent residents (PR). The assessment usually takes place through a CDR (Competency Demonstration Report).
By promoting a greater balance between the skill and family streams, the program is designed to ensure that Australia continues to receive the necessary skills while also reuniting families that have been separated due to COVID-19. Therefore, priority will be given to visa applicants with the right skills, qualifications, and English language proficiency to fill labor market shortages. In addition, the Migration Program will create new opportunities for temporary visa holders to obtain PR (permanent residency).

What is a Competency Demonstration Report?
A competency demonstration report, or CDR, is a report required in order to migrate to Australia for calculating the ability, proficiency, knowledge, and expertise of an engineer. The report is required by Engineers Australia (EA) in order to gauge you on these parameters. The CDR needs to demonstrate the applicant’s technical capabilities and should include resumes, personal statements, career episodes, and summary statements. It consists of a lot more phases. For more details on what is required or not, read this blog.
Why is Australian an extremely appealing option
With a highly skilled workforce and a diverse, technologically advanced economy orchestrated by a pro-business government, Australia is poised to have a strong future. In fact, Australia was recently ranked 14th on Forbes’ list of the “Best Countries for Ease of Doing Business,” making it one of the easiest places in the world to do business. It also ranked 4th on the Human Development Index (HDI), which measures standards of health, education, and quality of life—an indication that Australians have a very high quality of life. Additionally, Australia’s GDP has seen steady growth over the past decade and is projected to remain strong in the coming years. It is also regarded as the safest country in the world, with low crime rates and strict gun control laws.
Furthermore, the country is well known for its beautiful landscapes, friendly locals, and diverse cultural activities, making it an attractive destination for visitors and immigrants alike. Whether you are an engineer, a recent graduate, or just interested in making your life a little easier and simpler, you should consider working in Australia. With its robust economy and high quality of life, Australia offers a unique opportunity for people to further their careers and make their lives easier. Moreover, Australia also has a strong tradition of multiculturalism and diversity, meaning that people from all backgrounds are welcome to work and live there.
But first, a recent graduate or seasoned engineer will have to go through a robust framework to get an Australian visa. Some of them are CDR and RPL reports. They both have to be prepared carefully and demonstrate the applicant’s ability to meet the country’s competency standards
Australian Migration Plan
The Australian Migration Plan / Program is a step towards self-sufficiency and economic growth for Australia and its people. The Migration Program has a strong scientific background and a consultative process in its planning. As a result, Australian and international employers will have certainty about what skills will be required in Australia, when, and in which context. Consistent with its world-leading approach to science and innovation, Australia will also continue to develop new and innovative approaches to reach its international migration goals and meet its workforce needs. The Australian Migration Plan also provides a clear pathway for qualified international skilled workers to work in Australia and bring their skills, knowledge, and experiences to benefit the Australian economy.
For engineers, the framework is set by Engineers Australia (EA). EA works to set professional standards and accreditation for the engineering profession in Australia and has published the “Skills Assessment Guidelines for Engineers” to provide guidance on requirements for skilled engineers seeking migration to Australia. One of the key components of that guideline is to submit CDR and RPL reports.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a report that is to be written to the Australian Computer Society (ACS).
A Competency Demonstration Report (CDR) is a report requested by Engineers Australia (EA).
To demonstrate that you have the necessary skills, you can use not only your engineering degree from the undergraduate level but also the components of your academic education that involve projects and work experience.
A “career episode” is the part that is based on a project or piece of work you’ve worked on or are currently engaged in. Describe the project and your role in it.
