Study rights

Visa must permit full work and study rights for the entire duration of the program, including the internship period.

One important rule confirmed by the ACS directly:RPL is not available for any component of the ACS Professional Year. Every stage must be completed in full, no prior learning recognition, no credit transfers, no exemptions. Applicants who cannot commit to 100% attendance should not enrol. DHA requires full attendance compliance and providers enforce it strictly.

Program Structure – Three Stages Explained

The ACS Professional Year runs over 44 to 52 weeks depending on the provider and delivery schedule. The program has three structured stages that must be completed in sequence:

Stage 1: Formal Coursework (32 Weeks)

  • Minimum 220 hours (approx. 10 to 12 weeks), part-time or full-time.
  • Guaranteed placement in genuine ICT roles at Australian companies (no admin or simulated work).
  • 1 in 2 graduates receive a job offer from their host employer.
  • 3 in 4 secure ICT employment within 6 months of program completion.

How ACS Professional Year Adds 5 Migration Points

Completing the ACS Professional Year adds 5 points to your skilled migration score under theGeneral Skilled Migration points test. These points are awarded under the Australian Study Requirement category. To claim them:

  • You must have completed the full program: coursework, Professional Environments module, and internship
  • Your completion certificate and transcript from the ACS program must be submitted with your skills assessment or EOI documentation
  • The 5 points are awarded at the time of visa invitation, not at the skills assessment stage. The ACS skills assessment outcome is separate from the PY completion points
  • Points are claimed once; you cannot claim them multiple times for repeating the program

For context, the current invitation score for a Subclass 189 visa in competitive engineering and ICT occupations sits between 85 and 110 points.
