From the 7th December 2004ACECA has become the assessing body for this occupation instead of AITSL. Applicants will need a degree qualification at bachelor level or above from an early childhood course of at least 4 years in duration; the course will need to be with relation to the birth to five age group and not a general primary school teaching qualification; it will also need to include 45 days of supervised teaching practice.
Child Care Centre Manager and Child Care Worker Group Leaders
Both occupations require an ACECQA approved diploma qualification or higher in early childhood education and care. If your diploma qualification is not already an ACECQA approved course, it will be assessed by ACECQA as part of your skills assessment; you do not need to get a separate NQF assessment as well. The Child Care Centre Manager also needs several years of relevant work experience as a manager/ leader (not solely hands-on care experience).
Child Care Worker and Out of School Hours Care Worker
These occupations require a minimum of a certificate III level qualification in early childhood education and care that ACECQA has approved. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate relevant paid employment experience in a regulated early childhood education and care service; volunteer work and unpaid placements do not count toward the experience requirement.

- Receive your outcome: ACECQA targets completion within 60 calendar days from receipt of a complete application. Outcomes are delivered by email, and successful applicants also receive a certificate by post.

A positive ACECQA assessment outcome is valid for three years from the date of issue. During that period, you can submit your Expression of Interest through SkillSelect and apply for a visa if you receive an invitation. However, a positive skills assessment does not guarantee a visa will be granted; visa decisions rest with the Department of Home Affairs and depend on many factors beyond the assessment outcome.
If your ACECQA assessment outcome is unsuccessful, you receive a written explanation of the specific reasons. You can then request a review, though whether a fee applies depends on the basis of your review request. If your previous skills assessment has expired before you lodged avisa application, you need to submit a completely new application and pay the assessment fee again. Expired assessments cannot be renewed or extended.
