VETASSESS Documents Required for Professional Occupation Applications

Getting the VETASSESS documents required correct before submission is the single most controllable factor in yourVETASSESS skills assessment outcome. VETASSESS will not begin processing your application until every mandatory document is received and accepted. Missing documents trigger a further information request, which stops the clock on your application and adds weeks to your outcome timeline. The documents required vary depending on your occupation group, visa purpose, and employment situation, but the core checklist applies to all professional occupation applications.

Qualification Documents – What VETASSESS Needs

The qualification component of the VETASSESS documents required confirms that your degree meets theAQF level required for your nominated occupation and that the content of your study is relevant to the tasks listed in the ANZSCO description. The following qualification documents are required:

Degree Certificates

  • Certified copies of all relevant degrees, diplomas, or qualifications
  • Must show the full qualification title
  • Non-English certificates require certified English translations

Academic Transcripts

  • Official transcripts showing all subjects, results, and credit points
  • Student portal printouts are not accepted
  • Electronic transcripts require authenticity confirmation from the institution
  • Non-English transcripts require certified translations

  • Required when transcripts do not clearly show subject content

  • May be requested for qualifications from institutions not widely recognised in Australia
  • Usually not required for major universities in India, UK, USA, Canada, Philippines, and similar countries
  • Check your specific occupation guide before assuming exemption

Employment Evidence – The Most Critical VETASSESS Documents Required

Employment evidence is where most VETASSESS applications fail or get delayed. The VETASSESS documents required for employment are more detailed than most applicants expect. VETASSESS cross-checks every element of your employment claim against your reference letters, your CV, and your ANZSCO occupation description.

Statement of Service / Reference Letter

  • Required from every employer for claimedskilled employment
  • Must be on official company letterhead
  • Signed by supervisor or HR manager
  • Must include:
    • Full name
    • Job title
    • Employment dates
    • Full-time or part-time status
    • Hours per week (if part-time)
    • Detailed duties and responsibilities
  • Duties must match the ANZSCO occupation description
  • Generic duties or fewer than five clear duties may trigger a further information request

Secondary Employment Evidence

In addition to the reference letter, VETASSESS requires at least one form of secondary employment evidence per employment episode. Accepted secondary evidence includes:

  • Official government tax assessment notices: Both your name and employer’s name must be stated.
  • Payslips: Name, employer name, salary period showing
  • Superannuation statements: for Australian employment periods
  • Official employment contracts: Terms, salary, duties showing (Secondary evidence, may not stand on its own, as primary)
  • Bank statements: Clear bank transfers with employer names visible showing consistent payment of salaries.

VETASSESS looks for secondary evidence in order to establish, on its own account that the employment being presented to the skills assessment body as described in the referee letter is real and that the applicant was receiving a salary from that employer. If the secondary evidence clashes with the dates of employment and / or type of employment within the referee letter, then VETASSESS regards that as an alert and might ask for additional evidence.

Self-Employment and Freelance Evidence

  • Client statements on official letterhead confirming:
    • Dates
    • Duties
    • Hours worked
  • Business registration certificate
  • Tax returns showing business income
  • Bank statements showing client payments

Self-employment evidence is assessed more strictly than standard employment. Client statements must be detailed and specific.

Certified Translation Requirements for VETASSESS

All documents not originally in English must be accompanied by certified English translations. VETASSESS accepts translations from NAATI-accredited translators or from officially recognised translation services in the country of origin. Each translation must include:

  • The translator’s full name, contact details, andNAATI accreditation number (or equivalent official registration)
  • A signed declaration that the translation is accurate and complete
  • The original document and its translation submitted together as a single PDF
  • Date of translation: Translations more than 12 months old at the time of submission may be queried

Machine translations, including Google Translate outputs, are not accepted under any circumstances. Submitting an unverified translation is treated as submitting an incomplete document and triggers a further information request.

Occupation-Specific Additional Documents

Beyond the standard VETASSESS documents required, some occupations require additional evidence. Look at the relevant occupation guide provided by VETASSESS before completing your application for theANZSCO code your occupation is allocated to.

  • Portfolio of work: Required for certain creative and design occupations such as Graphic designers, Architects and Multimedia specialists. VETASSESS states the number of items for the portfolio and the format in each occupation guide.
  • Professional registration or licence: Required for occupations that are registered in either Australia or another country. Examples are medical practitioners, registered nurses and state-registered engineers. Include current and any historical registration documents.
  • Evidence of professional development: CPD records, conference certificates, and continuing education evidence for occupations where professional development is part of the ANZSCO competency standard.
  • Project or activity list: for occupations assessed on specific project outputs rather than general work history. The format is specified in the VETASSESS occupation guide.
  • Statutory declaration: if official employment documents cannot be obtained (e.g. employer has closed, HR policy prevents detail), VETASSESS accepts a statutory declaration accompanied by supporting secondary evidence. This is not available as a first-choice substitution.

Why Choose CDR Australia Writer for VETASSESS Document Support?

The VETASSESS documents required are well-documented, but gathering, formatting, and cross-checking every document against VETASSESS’s exact specifications is where most applications develop weaknesses. Employment reference letters that lack specific duties, transcripts submitted without syllabi, and secondary evidence that contradicts reference letter dates are the three most consistent causes of delays and negative outcomes.

  • Reference letter review:We check every employmentreference letter against VETASSESS’s mandatory fields, duties, hours, dates, format, and advise on corrections before submission
  • Document completeness check: We review your full application document set against the specific checklist for your occupation group and visa type before you submit
  • CV preparation: We prepare a VETASSESS-specific CV that aligns your experience descriptions with your nominated ANZSCO occupation tasks
  • Translation guidance: We advise on which documents require NAATI-certified translation and verify that translation declarations meet VETASSESS’s requirements
  • Occupation-specific additions: We identify whether your specific ANZSCO code requires a portfolio, project list, or professional registration evidence before you start gathering documents

A complete, consistent, and correctly formatted VETASSESS document required package is the foundation of every successful VETASSESS application. The gap between an application processed in four weeks and one delayed by eight is almost always in the employment evidence, and that gap is entirely preventable.

One Missing Document Delays Your Entire Assessment

Most VETASSESS delays are caused by incomplete employment evidence, missing translations, or poorly formatted reference letters. A single incorrect or missing document can stop your assessment for weeks and affect your migration timeline.
