ICT Project Manager Skills Assessment Pathways

ACS assesses ICT Project Managerskills assessment applications through two pathways, depending on your qualification background. Choosing the correct pathway before submitting is critical, the wrong pathway adds weeks to processing and risks a negative outcome.

Pathway 1 – ICT-Major Qualification

If your bachelor’s degree or higher has an ICT major that is closely related to the ICT Project Manager occupation, you apply through the standard qualification pathway. The experience requirement under this pathway is:

  • ICT-related degree closely matched to ANZSCO 135112: 2 years relevant work experience in the past 10 years
  • ICT-related degree partially matched: 4 years relevant work experience in the past 10 years
  • Non-ICT degree or higher with minor ICT content: 6 years relevant work experience required

ACS defines an ICT major as at least one-third of your total course content being ICT-related. The qualifications which may be relevant are degrees in computer science, information systems, software engineering and information technology. A degree in Business management, Engineering or Accounting if supported by relevant ICT units, may be classified as ‘partly related’ or ‘non-ICT’.

Pathway 2 – RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning)

RPL process applies to an ICT professional with either a non-ICT degree or no tertiary qualifications, who can display their ICT project management expertise through the use of two project reports, instead of formal academic qualifications.

RPL minimum experience requirements:

  • Non-ICT diploma or higher qualification: 6 years relevant ICT project management experience
  • No tertiary qualification at all: 8 years relevant ICT project management experience

The RPL report for ANZSCO 135112 includes the Key Areas of Knowledge (KAoK) responses (reflecting the ACS Core Body of knowledge CBOK) and two Project Reports illustrating two specific ICT projects which you managed. The two Project reports will highlight and evidence, through the use of specific tools e.g. Jira, MS Project, Trello, Asana, how you planned, scheduled, budgeted, managed risks, lead a team and successfully delivered the projects.

Documents Required for ICT Project Manager Skills Assessment

Incomplete document submissions are the most common cause of delays and unsuccessful ACS outcomes. Submit the following for ANZSCO 135112:

  • Certified copy of passport or government-issued photo ID
  • Certified academic transcripts and degree certificates, officially translated if not in English
  • Detailed CV covering all ICT roles with job titles, employer names, dates, and responsibilities
  • Employment reference letters, on company letterhead, signed by a supervisor, describing ICT-specific duties and responsibilities (not just job title and dates)
  • English language test result, IELTS (minimum 6.0 each band), PTE Academic, OET, or TOEFL iBT (UK, USA, Canada, NZ, and Ireland passport holders are exempt)

RPL Pathway Only
