AASW Skills Assessment by the Australian Association of Social Workers
AASW Skills Assessment is the mandatory migration assessment for overseas social workers applying for skilled migration to Australia. Conducted by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) as the government-approved assessing authority, the assessment confirms that your social work qualification, fieldwork hours, and English language proficiency meet Australian professional standards under ANZSCO 272511. Without a positive AASW Skills Assessment outcome, noExpression of Interest can be submitted and no skilled migration visa application can proceed.

What Is the AASW Skills Assessment?
The AASW Skills Assessment is formally called the Migration and Eligibility Assessment (MEA). It is conducted by the Australian Association of Social Workers on behalf of the Australian Government and evaluates overseas social work qualifications against the Australian Social Work Education and Accreditation Standards (ASWEAS). A positive MEA outcome confirms that your qualification is comparable to an Australian Bachelor of Social Work or Master of Social Work and that you meet the entry-level standard for professional social work practice in Australia.
AASW assessment outcomes are valid for 3 years from the date of issue. If your assessment expires before your visa is granted, you must apply for a new assessment. The MEA also determines eligibility for AASW membership, which is required for employment as a qualified social worker in most Australian health and community services settings.
Important Distinction: ANZSCO Code is assessed by (AASW). Other related occupations like Community Workers, youth workers and welfare support workers are assessed by(CWA – formerly ACWA not AASW). Ensure your correctANZSCO code matches before submitting your application to the right authority.
