The Tasmania Skilled Occupation List is the foundation of Tasmania’s state nomination program for the 190 Skilled Nominated Visa and 491 Skilled Work Regional Visa. If your occupation is on the list, you can apply for Tasmania nomination, which adds 5 bonus points for 190 or 15 bonus points for 491 toward your overallEOI score. If your occupation is not on the list, Tasmania state nomination is not available to you regardless of your qualifications or experience.
What Is the Tasmania Skilled Occupation List?
The Tasmania Skilled Occupation List, formally referred to as the TSOL or the TSE Priority Occupations list, is published and maintained by Migration Tasmania, the state government agency responsible for assessing skilled migration nomination applications. The list identifies which occupations are in demand in Tasmania and are therefore eligible for state nomination under the Tasmanian Skilled Employment (TSE) pathway.
Tasmania’s program allocates a set number of nomination places per financial year. For 2025 to 2026, Migration Tasmania had 1,200 Subclass 190 places and 650Subclass 491 places. As of 23 July 2026, both allocations for the 2025 to 2026 year had been fully used. The 2026 to 2027 program year opens with a new allocation, check Migration Tasmania’s website directly for current availability before preparing your application.

ICT Occupations and the Three-Year Employer Caveat
ICT professionals on the Tasmania Skilled Occupation List face a specific and important caveat that does not apply to engineers. The following ICT ANZSCO groups require the employer to have been actively operating in Tasmania for at least three years, not the standard 12 months that applies to most other occupations.

What This Means for ICT Professionals: If you work for an employer who has not been actively operating in Tasmania for at least three years, you do not qualify for the TSE Priority Occupation option under the 190 pathway, even if your ANZSCO occupation code is on the list. You would need to meet the long-term employment option instead, which requires at least 15 months of qualifying employment in Tasmania.

Minimum Requirements for Tasmania 190 and 491 Nomination in 2026
Confirming your occupation is on the Tasmania Skilled Occupation List is the first step. You then need to meet all of the following minimum requirements before you can submit a Registration of Interest.
Employment Requirements
- At least 9 months of work in Tasmania in a role closely related to your skills assessment occupation.
- At least 6 months if your occupation is in health, allied health, or teaching.
- Employment must have averaged at least 20 hours per week over the qualifying period.
- Minimum salary of AUD 57,000 per year or AUD 28.85 per hour, excluding overtime, penalties, bonuses, and casual loading.
Skills Assessment and English
- A valid positive skills assessment for your nominated occupation, Engineers Australia for engineers, ACS for ICT professionals.
- Skills assessment must have been issued within the last 3 years.
- Minimum Competent English, IELTS 6.0 in all bands, or equivalent, unless you hold a passport from the UK, Canada,New Zealand, USA, or Ireland.
- English test result must be within the last 3 years.
Residency and Employer Requirements
- You must currently be living in Tasmania and genuinely intend to continue living there.
- Your dependants must not be living in another Australian state or territory, they must have settled in Tasmania at least three months before you apply.
- Your employer must have been actively operating in Tasmania for at least 12 months (or 3 years for ICT groups 261, 262, 263, and 313).
- A genuine ongoing role, minimum 12-month contract with at least 3 months remaining at time of application.

Critical: If you are nominated for a 491 by Tasmania, you cannot later be renominated for a 190. This is a permanent restriction.
